First of Three Public Meetings

A public meeting to discuss the Chief Bemidji Statue Project will be held
Wednesday, May 19th in Cass Lake at the Leech Lake Tribal College at 6:30-8:00pm in Room 100, Building A.

We will be discussing the the value of creating a new statue to honor Chief Bemidji, impressions of the current statue, desired location of the statue, and the history of Bemidji the city, Shaynowishkung the man, and the memorials that have honored him.

The Chief Bemidji Statue Project‘s mission is to commission a new statue of Shaynowishkung, known as Chief Bemidji, that would depict him in a dignified and respectful way, honoring the man and his legacy. A diverse committee of interested community members, including descendants of Shaynowishkung living in the Leech Lake area, are working together on this project.

Everyone is invited to attend, learn about the project, and have the opportunity to give comment. Future meeting sites include the city of Bemidji and the city of Red Lake. Please join us at one of these locations. Thank you.
